Why Cell Phones For Seniors Need Certain Attributes

Cell phones for seniors often need to have certain features which those in the prime of life scarcely need to think about, and they will often need to be on plans which do not charge large monthly fees for call minutes which are never likely to be needed. The features which are needed can be found on many simple handsets, so there should be no difficulty in finding what you need. If you are on a limited budget, it may also be time to think about amending the way you communicate with the outside world.

One of the most common needs for senior cell phones, although this will not affect everyone, is that they are compatible with hearing aids. Some degree of hearing loss is suffered by a large percentage of seniors at some stage in their life, and this is most likely to be noticed when the environment is noisy. With a cellular telephone, you are trying to listen to a voice coming through a small tinny speaker, often in the middle of crowded streets or shopping malls. Even with perfect hearing people often have trouble deciphering the message in these circumstances, so if you have a hearing impediment you will definitely be affected.

It is also common for seniors to have visual difficulties, and there are features which can help with this as well. Although cell phones by their very nature need to be small, there are models which make the buttons as large as possible for the frame of the phone. These are easier to see, and they are also much easier to operate for people who have arthritis or rheumatism in their hands. Operating cellular phones with stiff fingers can be a problem for many, even if the phone can be gripped. A problem gripping the phone can often be solved with the right holder to effectively make it larger.

Senior Dating

Once the right cell phones for seniors have been located and a choice made, you will need to think about the calling plan which you sign up for. If you used a cell phone at work before you retired, you probably had a plan which gave you a lot of minutes of air time for a monthly fee. This worked out cheaper at the time as you were using up the monthly allowance keeping in contact with your head office or work colleagues. Now, the need is probably for a far simpler and cheaper plan which will not have wasted minutes at the end of the month.

It is also likely that you can save money by amending the way you communicate with people overall. Although a cell phone has advantages such as the easily available way to summon the emergency services in a crisis, it can be overly expensive if you use it out of habit. If you are making calls to your family and speaking for a long time, you could be spending far more money than you need. There are also health risks attached to prolonged cell phone use. If you can schedule your calls for when you are at home, you can take advantage of computer to computer VOIP calls which are free.

Cell phones for seniors are still a good idea because of the freedom they give you, and because you may need to summon help quickly. However, you need to find the right plan and usage pattern to avoid spending a lot more money than you need. Finding the right cell phone plan is a minefield even for the young and trendy professionals who have grown up in the cell phone age, never mind those who are unused to the devices. Using comparison sites on the Internet will allow you to compare what is on offer in peace and in your own time, and should help you find the right cell phones for seniors.
